The Battle was fought on the night of the 19th February 2007 at Warwickshire Games Club between Andy and Mark.

Mark took the Lancastrian force while Doc took the Yorkist Force.

The battle moved swiftly as the Yorkist force managed to motivate all their units and with much vigour advanced quickly towards St Albans catching the Lancastrians asleep who failed several attempts to manoeuvre their force to the edge of the town.

First Blood to the Lancastrian Archers of Edmunds Retinue.

The first melee is initiated by the Household unit of Richard of York. They smash into the Retinue Unit of Edmund after they have successfully fired several volleys of arrows into Richards Retinue.

The first round of this melee does not go well for Edmund’s Retinue and they are replaced by the Earl of Northumberland leading his Household into the fray.

This melee lasts most of the game with neither side making big gains. It is finally won by Richard of York when he personally joins the fight. The Earl of Northumberland flees leaving his Household men to their fate.

The above picture is the final shot in that melee with the Earl of Northumberland on the far edge of the photo. During the whole combat the disordered Retinue of Edmund fail to rally and remain at the Tavern in St Albans.

The following early game overview shows the melee with the Earl of Northumberland engaging Richard of York’s men, while Richard himself is hurrying to catch up his fast moving troops.

As can be seen the Yorkist forces have deployed quickly while their generals attempt to close the gap between them and their men. Richard Earl of Warwick’s Household troops makes a bold charge on Edmunds retinue near the Church.

Clifford sends his Retinue to attack the Earl of Salisbury’s retinue while the Retinue of Salisbury make a bold attack down Sopwell lane on Clifford’s ill prepared Levy.

The picture above shows the Left to Centre of the Yorkist troops before they become engaged.

The following picture is the Household troops of the Earl of Warwick charging to contact. This melee is another long fought battle which lasts until nearly the end of the game.

The Household troops are relieved at the end by the fresh Retinue of Warwick who charge down the road in column and hit the beleaguered troops of Edmund. The following shot shows how that melee is swung by the intervention of King Henry who joins the fray with his bodyguard and forces Warwick’s Retinue to flee.

Edmunds retinue have previously avoided certain destruction with a brave rallying call from Edmund himself who placed himself in great danger to rally his troops. (Once per game cancel morale test.)

The Captain of the Retinue beats a hasty retreat from the disordered Household of Warwick who fails to rally in time to press home their advantage.
