So with removal of two units for no damage to the Yorkist Cavalry things were not looking too good. The Yorkist Cavalry then made more great rolls and pulled back out of range from the Archery of the Lancastrians. Meanwhile The Duke of York used his ability to ensure that the Retinue unit he was with managed to let loose a hail of arrows onto the only Retinue unit under control of James Butler with great effect.

It is not long before the unit above loses all it’s archers to these deadly missiles.

Then a Retinue unit of Richard Neville the Earl of Salisbury arrives within reach of the Household unit of John Lord Clifford who jumps on the chance of getting some revenge. Charge….

They take casualties on the way in ( it seems the dice gods fled from the Lancastrian side most of the game) and the melee lasted several turns until finally the Household with John Lord Clifford joining them won through.

Of course the Yorkist Cavalry again make great rolls for motivation and action points and come storming forward for their second charge of the game. The Household are taken in the flank and last retinue of Thomas Lord Roos are set upon as they emerge from the woods.

The battle between the Household and the Cavalry continues for several rounds. They were able to respond to the charge and face the horse. They needed a 3 or less as it took 3 action points to get the Cavalry upon them. This was of limited use as they managed to kill one stand with short range archery and were only a 2 base width which docked them points from the melee that would follow.

In the Melee the Captain of the unit moved forward to add his weight to the front rank and he died in the process but with Lord Clifford with them the unit did not break.

They got a new Captain and extra action points for when they did get a turn but the game ended before they could do anymore. When the Cavalry lost the fight they pulled back and no more damage was done upon them in the retreat.

The photo below shows what is left of the valiant Household troops after several turns of melee with the Cavalry.

The Cavalry suffer some more deaths in the Melee but it is all too much for the Retinue and they too flee from the field of battle. This leaves only Levy to face the Cavalry and not much chance of success as the clock final halts the game.

Meanwhile the Duke of York’s Cavalry hit home against the last retinue unit belonging to Lord Roos. They inflict some mayhem to the Cavalry on the way in, but it is not enough
